Ten years ago today, self-described “news for nerds” site Slashdot proclaimed it “lame”; the Register said it “isn’t exactly innovatory”; and Wired (not-so-seriously) said “the only ‘breakthrough’ here is a growing desire to break a 2-by-4 over Steve Jobs’ skull”.

“It” was the first iPod, and ten years later it’s done slightly better than the nerds predicted.

(Side note: one of the “Hot News Headlines” on that archived Apple homepage linked above reads “Apple posts $66m fourth quarter profit”. Ten years on, Apple makes $66 million in profit every 22 hours.)
