Byers Canyon

Byers Canyon, originally uploaded by Shiny Things.

West of the little town of Hot Sulphur Springs, the young Colorado River runs through Byers Canyon – a short, picturesque gorge that also carries a train line and the US-40 highway. Further downstream, the same river (although slightly larger) carves out the Grand Canyon.

The Colorado River is in flood right now, because of the runoff from a massive late-season dump of snow (which still covers some parts of the state more than a metre deep).

Bonus pic: a cafe in Hot Sulphur Springs with a rather unusual name!
