In two weeks (all but ten hours), I’m flying out for my trip-of-a-lifetime – five weeks in the USA. And I have one very big question… what should I do while I’m over there?
Fearless Readers, I throw this question out to all of you. Pass it around. Blog it yourselves, solicit answers from your friends and their friends. Have you been there? Have people you know been over there? What should I absolutely not miss? What should I avoid like a bad case of bird flu?
You have three hundred and twenty-six hours.
Also – from now until I get back, this blog will be the best place to keep tabs on the trip – where I’m at, where I’m going, how to get in touch with me. Add the feed to your RSS readers. If you don’t have an RSS reader: on Windows, Sharpreader is good and free. On Mac OS 10.4, Safari RSS is all you need; otherwise, NetNewsWire is not free, but it’s excellent.
After the jump – my itinerary, and the sort of places I’m already looking at.
This itinerary is provisional at best, and it’s deliberately flexible. Air New Zealand were immensely helpful when I realised I’d need to upgrade to a flexible fare.
May 14-22: New York City
Already on the menu:
- See the Strawberry Fields in Central Park
- Take a photo of the bull
- Darwin exhibition at the American Museum of Natural History
May 22-29: Washington
- The Smithsonian Air and Space Museum
- Um… help me out here? I’m tempted to stretch out NY by two days.
May 29-June 5: Seattle
- Lots of coffee. LOTS of coffee.
- Pike Place Market
- A side trip to Vancouver
So that’s a taste of what I’ve got planned. But what else should I see? Any suggestions for places to stop on the train down the coast? Any winning suggestions will get souvenirs.
