So does this mean you're technically a slovenly bum at the moment? Time to catch up on a couple of those touristy Singapore things you haven't done - Bird Park anyone?

And of course PBoC has been SO considerate of others' economies when setting Yuan policy.

Beating this soundbyte for strains on incredulity, however, i must say goes to Wen's castigating the banks for monopolistic practices, excessive profits, and lack of lending to SMEs. I'm not sure where he is getting with this given the central government owns 70-80% of each of the big 4 banks.

If you thought KRudd vs Gillard tit for tats, US Congress bickering, and the ejector seat of Japanese PM was political comedy, then kick back and enjoy the Beijing technocratic bureaucrat show!

Um, wow. I made my first pass down the Little Collins strip since Christmas, and the sudden emptiness there is stark. Shame, since it just saw the arrival of Readers' Feast in November, hopefully resurrecting itself after the Borders implosion. Clearly it is my civic duty to traipse down there more often, and buy books as well as coffee from Quists.

Mate I just landed in Sydney for my assignment, it's stunning how expensive things are here, particularly food. Odd because if you have to import most of your food and retail widgets, you would think the A$ would be a boon for those kind of things sensitive to the currency and changes therein. Maybe the empirical evidence from FX pass through (or lack of) applies to australia as well as US? Not sure what exactly is going but now that I'm down here should be interesting to try and find out. Maybe fallout from the relentless yet subtle china QE and commodity bid??
