William Wallace, immortalised

William Wallace, immortalised, originally uploaded by Shiny Things.

Scots folk hero William Wallace rides heroically into battle, in a tiny stained-glass window set into the wall of the 12th-century St. Margaret’s Chapel.

St. Margaret’s (part of the Edinburgh Castle complex) is the oldest building in Edinburgh, and it’s over nine thousand – sorry, over nine hundred – years old.

(Before you ask how William Wallace (who died in 1300) could appear in the stained-glass windows of a chapel dating to 1100, the stained-glass windows were installed in the 1920s.)
