The reporters for CNN’s travel website CNNgo need to lay off the illicit substances at work. Per Friday’s Pravda:
SURPRISE, surprise. Singaporeans have been named the second ‘coolest nationality’ in the world by travel website CNNgo – and it all has to do with the Republic’s burgeoning geek culture. ‘With its absurdly computer-literate population, Singapore is geek central and its people can therefore claim their rightful place as avatars of modern cool,’ wrote Mr Barry Neild, the author of the report, which was published last Friday.
[…]The report proclaimed geeks as no longer the laughing stock in a digital age where ‘old school notions of cool have been rebooted’.
By that standard, Palo Alto is cool and Silicon Alley is cool. Singapore, despite CNN’s fevered imaginations, is irredeemably uncool (except for Club Street, which is the exception that proves the rule).
#1 on the list was Brazil, which is genuinely cool; #4 was Mongolia, which isn’t so much “cool” as “brutally cold” (and also “backwards and repressive”). And the third “coolest” country on CNNgo’s list was Jamaica, in case you needed any more convincing that they’re spending their work hours passing the dutchie on the left-hand side.
