Compare and contrast

Sydney Morning Herald, May 17th:

Every single goal, every single kick in the 2010 FIFA World Cup will be broadcast live on Australian free-to-air television.

AsiaOne, May 10th:

More than 60 per cent of those we spoke to say that $70 (early bird price) or $94 to watch the World Cup [in Singapore] is way too high.

And Singtel’s chief of content Edward Ying says Singaporeans should shut up and be grateful:

“$1 a match is hard for Singaporeans to complain (about). (But) we need lots of subscribers to break even.”

The Starhub/Singtel consortium apparently paid $20 million for the broadcast rights to the 2010 World Cup – or about $4 for every person in Singapore.

At least there won’t be riots.
