Protesting in the twenty-first century

I’m kicking back and watching CNN’s coverage of the Olympic torch relay through San Francisco… did I say “relay”? I meant “fiasco”…

The runners are surrounded by twenty or thirty SWAT team members, three motorbike police (maybe more, I can’t see ’em) – and the route has been shifted fifteen blocks west to throw off the protesters.

But.

The main protesting organisation (Students for a Free Tibet) is also watching CNN’s helicopter-cam coverage, and they’re sending out torch-location updates via SMS to the protesters… so BOCOG’s attempts to avoid the protesters are being hilariously subverted.

By the way, if you haven’t had your daily dose of obnoxious propaganda, have a browse through the official Olympics website’s coverage of the torch relay. For starters, compare this to this.
