JRE Keeps You Entertained All Weekend… wait, what do you mean it’s Monday?

Via Metafilter, the climactic seven minutes of Trading Places; and from the NYT, a nifty demonstration of the hand signals used in open-outcry futures trading, so you can follow what Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd are doing.

(This scene was filmed in the real orange-juice trading pits at the old NYBOT headquarters, in 4 World Trade Center. These days, NYBOT leases space in the NYMEX building – as seen previously on JRE.)

Update: None of the US exchanges with open-outcry trading allow visits any more, for obvious reasons – but you can still catch a glimpse of the good old days over in London. The London Metal Exchange allows visits, if you book four weeks in advance and jump through a few security hoops.
